Lauren Parfitt, Ffion Wynne and Nicole Reid, three of Newport Cricket Club's senior girl cricketers, have been selected to represent the Wales Girl's U19 team, who will play in the Women's U19 ARCH Trophy, on an 8 day tour of Dubai in February.

It seems recently, as though the cricket season has just begun, although in fact we are coming to the close. Despite some still, pretty atrocious weather and several major events/games cancelled, at least there has been some cricket played in the past month or so.


Although the bad weather has had a devastating effect on the cricket season, the Junior side of the Club has maintained it's rating as one of the best in the UK. Listed below are some of the achievements of the Junior Section this season. Read more...

The Victorious Newport CC U11 Team Newport U11 Girls Cricket Club became the 2012 Lady Taverner's Welsh Cup Winners in fine style, at the Welsh Finals Day at Cardiff Cricket Club. Newport retaining the trophy they won last year.


Four teams from all over Wales had progressed to the Final's Day with Newport CC, Cardiff CC, Lisvane CC and Narbeth CC all fighting for the title. The tournament was organised as a round robin competition, with each team playing each other, based on the pairs cricket format, with 4 pairs batting in an 8 over game, with 5 runs deducted for every wicket lost.


In Newport's first game they played Lisvane. Newport batted first and with Amy Harris, Paige Curtis, Charlotte Scarborough and Jess Thornton all hitting boundary's Newport posted a useful total of 245-2 (235). The Newport girls bowled really well, with Vicky Clarke, Jess Thornton and Amy Harris all bowling maidens. With Amy and Paige claiming wickets, Lisvane soon slipped well behind the required run rate, eventually finishing on 223-2 (213). Newport winning their first match by 22 runs. Read more...

Newport U13 Girls Cricket Club, sponsored by Herald Land England underlined their growing potential with a magnificent achievement in becoming the UK U13 Lady Taverners National Runners Up, at Ellesmere College. The girls produced memorable performances, before just failing in the U.K. Final against North London, by 21 runs. Read more...

Newport Cricket Club Under 11 Girls Team sponsored by Herald Land England, capped a memorable season by winning the Lady Taverners, Welsh Cup Competition at the Welsh Finals Day, at Radyr Cricket Club recently. Having previously won the the Gwent region, the Newport girls were up against tough opposition from the champion clubs of the other counties of Wales.

Simon JonesNewport Cricket Club, sponsored by Herald Land, were given a significant boost ahead of the 2012 cricket season, with the news that former England Test Star, Simon Jones will be playing for the club as their Glamorgan allocated player for 2012. Jones returning to Glamorgan this season, after spells with Worcestershire and Hampshire, will play for Newport in the SWALEC Premier League when available. Since his heroic performances against the Australians in the 2005 Ashes series Jones has been plagued with injury, but winning 18 caps for England shows his class and he hopes a return to Glamorgan this year will see a change in fortune and hopefully, Newport will benefit from this. In September 2009, officials of Newport Cricket Club decided to form a Girls Cricket section, with Newport Cricket Club Head Coach, Mike Knight agreeing to oversee the implementation of a Girls Cricket Development Programme. In little over eighteen months a small group of very talented girls has grown into a fully functioning Newport Girls Cricket Club, consisting of over 50 members with more joining every week.


As the popularity of Girls Cricket has developed numbers have increased rapidly with Newport Girls Head Coach Mike Knight proudly acknowledging, ‘There has been a major revolution in Girls cricket and Newport Girls Cricket Club has been the catalyst for a massive increase in participation in cricket for girls’.
